Telehealth Services

Telehealth Basics

Telehealth also called teletherapy/tele-mental health, or virtual counseling as it’s otherwise known, is the online delivery of therapy services via a two-way video conferencing platform. Sessions are nearly identical to in-person therapy, only we interact through live, secure video conferencing.

Telehealth with Crescent Moon Counseling

Telehealth services with Crescent Moon Counseling, LLC are offered through a HIPAA compliant platform called Telehealth by Simple Practice. Ethical clinical guidelines apply to your telehealth sessions. Your sessions will never be recorded and your privacy will always be prioritized. With just the click of a link through the client portal you have a secure connection to meet for your virtual appointment. You can access your telehealth session through a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone from the comfort of your own private space, or any location, as long as you are in Wisconsin or Minnesota. Special software is not required for use. All you need is internet connection and device access.

Telehealth FAQ'S

How can I be certain my sessions are secure?

Although, we will be using encrypted software, I cannot guarantee total privacy and security.  It is possible for there to be a breach in confidentiality by hackers or if nonsecure devices fall into the wrong hands.  Thus, you will be using teletherapy at your own risk.  I recommend that you take these additional security measures:

  • Use a private computer and never a public computer.

  • Check that your computer has a firewall / antivirus protection to strengthen your privacy and security.

  • Do not share or authorize other people to your client portal username or password. Don’t save your password to your computer.

  • Meet in a private space.

  • Wear head phones during session.

  • Place something that creates white noise outside your door (fan, sound machine, etc.)

Can anyone participate in telehealth?

It is very important to understand that telehealth is NOT appropriate for everyone. I will assess during your phone consult and/or intake appointment if telehealth is appropriate. Individuals with severe and chronic mental illness, active suicidality, and crisis, need in-person therapy and not telehealth. This service is most appropriate for those who have some ability to cope with stressors in adaptive ways.

How can I prepare for my telehealth appointment?

Make a safe space-

  • Find a private room or go to or an area you will be comfortable. Close the door.

  • Use headphones for privacy.

  • Create “white noise” by turning on a fan or sound machine outside the door.

  • Remove distractions by turning off music, T.V.’s, devices, or putting your phone away.

  • Turn the lights on in the room so you can be seen during session.

  • Lastly, take a deep breath. Telehealth is new and different, it can feel intimidating, and technology can be frustrating. We can work through any anxieties and fears that come up together during this process.
